South Africa

  • Dear Rob, I know you have already heard from other family members that we had a truly memorable holiday. Everyone was well, happy and delighted throughout. We constantly commented on how everything felt “just right”, each place we stayed fitted our needs perfectly and we loved the contrasting styles. The amount of travelling was easily manageable and in fact we were glad of longish road journeys in order to catch a glimpse of the real world beyond the luxuries that we enjoyed. With best wishes and very many thanks for the great care you took to arrange everything so well for our group spanning 7 decades!

Accommodation Options In South Africa

South Africa offers almost anything you require in accommodation terms. It is a hugely developed and sophisticated country, and urban centres such as Cape Town offer cutting edge contemporary design as well as more traditional accommodation options. As well as mainstream hotels, boutique guesthouses and country lodges, there is an excellent network of more affordable bed and breakfast guesthouses and the main tourist regions also offer a wide range of self-catering apartments and house rentals.

On safari, South Africa has a selection of well run and excellent value for money National Parks Restcamps, but is particularly known for its wide range of superbly run private luxury lodges, some of which offer extreme comfort with air-conditioning, private plunge pools and private butlers. If the South African safari scene lacks anything, it is more of the adventurous and ‘close to nature’ safari options. The market has dictated that most people choosing South Africa as a safari destination have a preference for comfort over adventure, so there are very few opportunities to enjoy a more modest wilderness experience.

There are far too many hotels, country lodges and guesthouses in South Africa to mention all of them, but please find below a limited selection of some of our favourite safari properties, guest houses, luxury hotels, mountain retreats, historical lodges and country hotels around the country, and the exclusive rail journeys. We have listed them by accommodation style or by region. Simply click on the name to visit the property website.
